  • 2) Mains Written Examination

Qualifying papers –

  • Paper A- Indian language – 300 mark
  • Paper B-English – 300 mark (its marks does not include in merit ranking)
  • Mains written examination consists – 7 papers total 1750 mark, 250 marks each (these papers marks will be counted for merit ranking.
  • Personality test- 275 marks.

How to Apply

Candidates who are eligible and interested for the recruitment can apply online by the steps-

  • Candidates have to create their account first.
  • Candidates are required to generate the Universal Registration Number (URN) before applying for any specific module examination.
  • Candidate must apply online through the official website – https://upsconlin.nic.in.
  • Read general instructions and guidelines before applying.
  • Candidates are required to submit the information and its supporting documents such as – mark sheet, address details, signature, Id Proof, like – Aadhar card / pan card along with URN and CAF.
  • Applicants are required to upload their live photograph /current photo while filling the application.
  • Submit the application fees online banking methods, but before that make sure to check that there is no error in the application form filled by you.
  • After submitting the application fee and application and keep the printout copy of your application form with you.

Important instructions

  1. Allotment of examination centres will be on the “First apply -first allot” basis, and PwBD candidate will be able choose preferable centre even after capacity is full.
  2. Most centres have limited seats allotments except for Chennai, Nagpur, Kolkata, and Dispur
  3. If a candidate is already appointed and still serving as IAS/IPS/IFS from their earlier attempts are not eligible for civil services examination 2026.
  4. Candidate allotted to IPS or Central service group ‘A’ can appear again in CSE -2027 (one time) only if -joining training exemption, shall join only foundation course training, if candidate does not join training allotted on the basis of CSE-2026 their allocation of the services will be cancelled, they cannot appear for CSE-2028 or any CSE later unless they resign from the allocated service. They get 1 time opportunity to appear in either CSE2026/2027 without resigning from their service based on their CSE-2025 or earlier years if they want to utilize their remaining attempts.
  5. Candidates should be physically fit according to Civil services examination’s standard.
  6. Negative mark deduction for each wrong answer is 1/3rd (0.33)
